Dharamshala: The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) have successfully concluded festival 2009 which took place in Zanka, Hungary , from the 15th until the 21st of July and was hosted by IUSY member organisation Societas - New Movement which is the associated youth organisation of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP), currently the larger coalition partner in the Government of Hungary.
Over 3000 young socialists and social democrats from more than 143 different organizations from different parts of the world gathered to spend a week of discussions, seminars, workshops and happenings under the slogan Development for Freedom - Our war on Poverty . Vice President Dhondup Dorjee and Public Relations Secretary Tenzin Yangdon of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) represented Tibet during the festival in Hungary.
The Vice President of TYC was among the five member panelists in the Asia pacific regional seminar on The democracy in Asia which was moderated by Ms Jacinda Ardern who is currently a Member of Parliament from New Zealand and the President of IUSY. Mr. Dorjee briefly summarized the situations inside Tibet since 10th March 2008 and the worsening situations inside Tibet after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
He said The Communist Party of China, instead of addressing the genuine greviencies of the Tibetan people, they resorted to brute use of force, tried to undermine the peoples movement by blaming on the exile Tibetans and the most unfortunate was the Communist Party tried to create an impression that Tibetans are anti-Chinese in order to get the Han Chinese support for their brutal use of force on the peaceful movement .
He also highlighted on the democratic process within the Tibetan community in exile for the past 50 years under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the roles of TYC in further deepening the democratization within the exile community. He stated His Holiness the Dalai Lama is today regarded through out the world as an International leader who advocates peace and non violence but for the Tibetans, he is also a leader who advocates democracy.
TYC delegates met with the delegates and Vice-President Brando Benefei of ECOSY - Young European Socialists, the youth organisation of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Socialist Group in the European Parliament who expressed their interest and concern for Tibet. The two delegates also participated in the Festival Expo-Bazaar and held a photo exhibition on Tibetans in exile at the Bazaar table.
A week long festival with intensive political discussions gave an opportunity to exchange ideas and strengthen the global network of young people working for social democracy, fighting injustice, occupation and human rights violations. The five main conferences of the festival focused on Conflict Prevention, Migration, Climate Change, Economic Crisis and Poverty.
The closing ceremony of the IUSY World Festival began with the participants making a human peace-sign covering the entire central square of the festival ground. The ceremony was graced by the Prime Minister of Hungary Mr. Gordon Bajnai who welcomed the participants to Hungary. Quoting Charles Darwin, Mr. Bajnai said it is not the species who survives who are the strongest, and not the ones who are most intelligent but the ones who are most adapted to change. Your job is to lead the world into a change.
